Kenya Medical Training College – Rachuonyo Campus is located in Homa bay County, Rachuonyo Sub – County, Oyugis Town along Oyugis – Kendu bay road. The college was started as a community initiative with the following objectives:
- To develop qualified health personnel for the Homa bay County and Kenya for improved life.
- To improve accessibility to qualif health care through skilled and trained health personnel for the Homa bay County
- Improving the Nursing standards of Rachuonyo Sub County Hospital.
The college is an initiative of the following partners:
- County Government of Homa bay.
- Constituencies Development Funds- Kasipul.
- Rachuonyo sub-county Hospital.
- KMTC Homa bay.
- Tom Mboya University College- Homa Bay
OPENING OF THE CAMPUS
Kenya Medical Training College – Rachuonyo Campus was opened in April 2016 by the KMTC Board of Management Chairman Prof. Philip Kaloki and the KMTC Chief Executive Officer Peter Tum.
The Principal Mr. Nathan Masengeli was posted to the college in late April 2016 and the first admission of students was done in May 2016.
Currently the college has the following two departments:
- Health Records and Information Technology
- Health Promotion
The college is set to start a 3rd department – Community Health Nursing by March 2017.
There are 3 classrooms that are fully constructed and being used. There is another block under construction which will house 4 other classrooms and the administration block.
Library The library is functional with books for nursing and other departments. It has a sitting capacity of 30 students with reading tables, library shelves, librarian office and is managed by a librarian.
The lab has 34 computers with some being used by the Health Records and Information Technology students for their learning. These computers have been donated by various partners that include; i.e. Rachuonyo sub-county Hospital-4, KMTC-Homa Bay Campus- 20 and County Government of Homa bay through Ministry of Health-10.
The skills laboratory has most of the equipment and materials that are necessary for optimum use of the skills lab concept.

Catering There is a dining Hall with a sitting capacity of 100.
There is a hostel currently being occupied by female students with a capacity of 100
Sports Students engage in in-door games and volley ball. Agoro High School situated adjacent to the KMTC has a spacious playground which is also utilized by KMTC students.
Electricity and water supply
There is electricity supply in the institution from the hospital and a standby functional generator in case of power failure to enable smooth running of activities in the campus. Tapped water is available and in addition the campus has 3 water tanks with a capacity of 1000 liters each to ensure constant water supply.
Sanitation The College has an ablution block with 6 toilets, 5 bathrooms and 2 pit latrines. There is a compost pit for refuse disposal.
Security The Campus is well fenced and has a sturdy gate. Three security officers from a local firm have been contracted to enhance the security of all students and staff at the campus.
