KMTC Navakholo leads free medical camp to improve community health

Healthy Today, Better Tomorrow was the guiding theme of a free medical camp organised by Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Navakholo Campus to improve access to healthcare services for residents of Navakholo Constituency.

The medical camp, held at Buhayi Muslim Comprehensive School, was a joint initiative between KMTC Navakholo Campus, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH), the Navakholo National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), and the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA).

Hundreds of residents benefited from services including medical consultations, screening, diagnosis, treatment, and health counselling.

The outreach addressed a range of common health conditions, including malaria, respiratory tract infections, hypertension, diabetes, skin infections, gastrointestinal illnesses, eye conditions, and minor injuries.

The medical camp was graced by Navakholo Constituency Member of Parliament Hon. Emmanuel Wangwe and the KMTC Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Kelly Oluoch, who was represented by KMTC Navakholo Campus Principal, Ms. Eileen Washiali.

Speaking at the launch, Hon. Wangwe said the initiative reflects a shared commitment among partners to improve access to healthcare services and address the community's health needs.

“Access to healthcare is a fundamental right. This medical camp demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that residents receive quality healthcare services closer to their homes. We expect about 1,000 patients to benefit from this initiative, and I thank KMTC and all our partners for standing with the people of Navakholo,” he said.

Reinforcing this, Ms. Washiali said the initiative reflects KMTC’s commitment to community service and training health professionals who can effectively respond to society’s healthcare needs.

She noted that such outreach programmes help improve community health while providing students with practical exposure to healthcare delivery.

The medical camp also served as a learning opportunity for students, who worked alongside healthcare professionals in delivering services.

In addition, students conducted health education sessions on malaria prevention, HIV and AIDS awareness, nutrition, hygiene, sanitation, and healthy living practices to help residents make informed health decisions.

The outreach highlights the value of partnerships in expanding access to healthcare services while supporting experiential learning for students.

Established in 2023, KMTC Navakholo Campus currently has more than 700 students pursuing programmes in Clinical Medicine and Surgery, Nursing, Emergency Medical Technician, Orthopaedic Trauma Medicine, and Community Health.
