From nursing sick father to becoming a nursing student
For Irene Ayieko, a first-year student, today marks the beginning of a new chapter in her career as she joins Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), Nairobi Campus.
When Irene’s father was involved in an accident that left him with a spinal cord injury, she stepped in to provide nursing support.
“It is something I had never done before. My dad is doing far much better now, thank God!” she narrates.
Later, her cousin was diagnosed with Tuberculosis and Irene stepped in again.
“My cousin is now fully recovered,” she says.
Today, she is joining KMTC to undertake a Diploma in Community Health Nursing.
“I am happy to join this course. It is training I had hoped to pursue…it is a calling,” she narrates with a smile on her face.
She knows the road ahead of her will not be easy but promises to remain focused and patient in order to achieve her goal of becoming a trained nurse.
