Our mission is to provide a dynamic and quality user-centered library and information services that support the College in carrying out its core activities of training, research, and consultancy services.
Brief about the Library
At the KMTC Library, we pride ourselves on having professional personnel who are well-trained and experienced in academic information management, and always available for consultation. Our extensive library system comprises the main resource center at KMTC Nairobi and over 75 campus/branch libraries.
Operating Hours: For your convenience, the Main Library operates on flexible schedules:
- Monday to Friday: 7.30 a.m. - 9.00 p.m.
- Saturdays: 9.00 a.m. - 2.00 p.m. (Vacation: 9.00 a.m. - 5.00 p.m.)
- Examination Time (Weekdays): 7.30 a.m. - 10.00 p.m.
- Examination Time (Saturdays): 9.00 a.m. - 4.00 p.m.
- Sundays and Public Holidays: CLOSED
Library Services
1. Lending Services
Enjoy the equitable circulation of information resources among all users through our lending services. KMTC-Library offers three types of library loans for print books:
- The long loan
- Short loan (3 hours)
- Overnight loans (for overnight use, to be returned the following morning)
- Lending Regulations:All students and staff of KMTC must register with the library since borrowing information materials is only allowed for registered users
They MUST produce their students and staff identification cards before borrowing. . - Number of books to be borrowed:
- Lecturers: Maximum of 4 books for 1 month, renewable once for another 1 month.
- Students: Maximum of 2 books for 2 weeks, renewable once for another 2 weeks
- Non-Academic Staff: Maximum of 2 books for 2 weeks, renewable once for another 2 weeks.
- Others: To be determined by the librarian.
- Fines for overdue materials:
- Long loan: Kshs. 10/= per book per day.
- Short loan: Kshs. 10/= per hour.
- Overnight loans: Kshs. 10/= per hour.
- Lost or mutilated materials:
Lost or mutilated information materials on loan will be replaced at the market cost of the information materials plus Kshs. 500/= processing charges.
Recall of Materials on Loan
The Librarian may recall any information materials on loan from a user by notice, specifying the return of the same. If a user does not return the item as specified, they shall incur a fine of Kshs. 10/= per book per day. A short loan incurs a fine of Kshs. 10/= per hour.
ICT Services

Inter-library Loan and Intra-Campus Library Services
Through our established inter-library loan arrangements, borrow information materials from collaborating libraries. Our library also provides intra-campus library services for users across all KMTC Campus libraries.
Reprographic/Photocopying Services
Get access to printing and photocopying services at a minimal charge. Please adhere to Copyright Laws and Regulations during photocopying.
Information Literacy
Enhance your research abilities with our information literacy sessions, where we equip users with the necessary skills for accessing information resources and understanding referencing and citation.
Electronic Services
As a member of the Kenya Library and Information Services Consortium (KLISC), we offer a wide range of e-resources. Additionally, our registration with the World Health Organization (WHO) allows access to the Health Internetwork Access to Research Initiative (HINARI) database, offering free e-journals and e-books to developing countries.
Other Library Services
- Off-campus access to electronic resources: Users can access electronic resources remotely through the library's online platforms.
- Web OPAC: The library utilizes KOHA, an Integrated Library Management System, and provides designated computers for students to access the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC). The OPAC is continuously updated to reflect the complete library collection.
- Online reference services: The library offers online reference services through various channels, including Ask-A-Librarian, live chat support, the library's Facebook Page, and Twitter Handle.
- Institutional Repository: The library maintains a digital/institutional repository where users can find theses, dissertations, conference and workshop papers, research papers, books and book chapters, journal articles, sample past examination papers, library policies, guides, training materials, and audio-visual materials.
- Library website: The library's website serves as a portal for accessing information about library services, resources, and events.
- Literature searches: Users can request assistance from the library staff in conducting literature searches for specific topics.
- Use of electronic and other databases: The library provides access to various electronic databases, enabling users to retrieve relevant information.
- Selective dissemination of information: The library disseminates relevant information to users based on their specific interests and needs.
- Current awareness: The library keeps users informed about the latest developments in their respective fields through current awareness services.
- Bindery: The library offers bindery services for the preservation and maintenance of library materials.
- Access to Back Issues of Newspapers: Users can access back issues of newspapers for research purposes.
- Information Desk: An Information Desk is available to provide quick assistance and address user queries.
Reading Facilities
Our library provides ample reading spaces and a conducive environment for study and research, catering to the diverse needs of users with general reading areas, study carrels, computer labs, and more.
Library Catalogue
Explore our Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) using the KOHA Integrated Library Management System. The catalog is continuously updated to reflect the complete holdings of the library.
Content for the Digital/Institutional Repository
Discover a wide range of materials in our digital/institutional repository, including theses, dissertations, papers, articles, books, e-resources, examination papers, policies, guides, training materials, and audio-visual content. These resources support the academic and research needs of the KMTC community, enhancing the learning experience.
Important Information
We are delighted to announce that the College has received a generous donation of UpToDate evidence-based online resources. UpToDate is a widely used clinical decision support resource, providing healthcare professionals with access to evidence-based medical information across various specialties. The platform is accessible online and through mobile applications, ensuring convenient access to reliable medical information at the point of care. Stay updated with the latest advancements in medical knowledge through UpToDate's daily content updates.
Currently, the UpToDate database is accessible to users from Nairobi, Nakuru, Nyeri, Mombasa, Eldoret, Kisumu, Murang’a, Machakos, Embu, Kitui, and Manza, with plans underway to bring more Campuses on board.
