KMTC CEO Dr. Kelly Oluoch Engages Officers on Academic Workload and Harmonization

The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) CEO, Dr. Kelly Oluoch, held a consultative session on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, with staff at the Kisumu Campus, focusing on academic workload and harmonization.

In recent months, the College embarked on blending face-to-face and digital learning to meet the evolving needs of students.

Dr. Oluoch noted that while KMTC has a long-standing tradition of in-person training, embracing technology is essential in expanding access and enriching the learning experience.

“Academic work today requires us to adapt to new realities, blending classroom teaching with digital learning, ensuring fair time allocation for staff, and embracing technology to deliver quality health training,” he said.

The CEO emphasized that workload allocation for teaching staff should capture the full scope of academic responsibilities, including classroom instruction, mentorship, research, online delivery, and administrative duties.

He called for harmonized timetables across campuses to ensure fairness, consistency, and efficiency in distributing responsibilities.

Dr. Oluoch also outlined measures to strengthen e-learning, including increased budgetary support for internet connectivity across all campuses and the provision of at least two digital screens per campus to facilitate online classes.

He emphasized that prudent financial management would remain a guiding principle to ensure resources are utilized effectively to enhance service delivery.

He further highlighted the importance of collaboration and knowledge sharing among staff, noting that KMTC draws its strength from the diversity of its workforce.

“Harnessing this expertise through teamwork, he said, would enrich the quality of teaching and better prepare graduates for the demands of the healthcare sector,” he said.

Concluding his address, Dr. Oluoch commended staff for their dedication to the College’s mission and encouraged them to continue embracing innovation, professionalism, and teamwork in shaping the future of health training in Kenya.
