KMTC Explores Labor Migration Collaboration with Paramedic Association of New Brunswick, Canada
The College hosted Mr. Derek Cassista, Deputy Registrar of the Paramedic Association of New Brunswick (PANB), Canada, and Lead Expert/Consultant in Health Care Economics and Government Relations, at its headquarters on November 27, 2025.
Mr. Cassista paid a courtesy visit to the College to explore opportunities for collaboration in labor migration for healthcare professionals.
Speaking during the visit, Mr. Cassista noted that the Association was delighted to engage with KMTC and gain first-hand insight into the College’s training curricula.
He emphasized that aligning KMTC’s programmes with the Canadian healthcare system would help meet the growing demand for qualified health workers in Canada.
“Canada has an aging population and an increasing shortage of healthcare providers. We are keen on building a partnership with the Kenyan Government and KMTC to tap into Kenya’s highly skilled health workforce,” he said.
He further highlighted PANB’s readiness to support curriculum review efforts and contribute to faculty empowerment as a strategy to strengthen training outcomes.
Representing the CEO, Dr. Kelly Oluoch, Deputy Director, Academics, Dr. Nyawira Mwangi, welcomed the engagement, terming it a significant milestone in expanding job opportunities for Kenyan youth while contributing meaningfully to Canada’s health service delivery.
During the visit, Mr. Cassista and his team toured the Skills Laboratory, Simulation Lab, and several classrooms. They interacted with students who demonstrated their competencies, leaving the delegation impressed by the high standards of training and professionalism displayed by KMTC Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) students.
The proposed collaboration marks a promising step towards strengthening global partnerships and expanding international career pathways for KMTC students.
Mr. Cassista was accompanied by Ms. Sharon Rebecca and Mr. Nelson Rono from the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, Directorate of Labour Migration and Management.
Also present during the meeting were Canadian High Commission representative Mr. Kelvin Murerwa; KMTC Deputy Registrars Ms. Lucy Kuria (Quality Assurance), Ms. Grace Mwangi (Student Affairs), Mr. Felix Mutua (Head of Department, Clinical Medicine); Nairobi Campus Deputy Principals, Ms. Carolyne Oyugi (Finance and Administration); and Mr. Willy Bett (Academics).
