KMTC set to play key role as Kenya and Angola Boost Health Sector Cooperation
A high-level Angolan delegation arrived in Kenya on December 5, 2025, kicking off a four-day visit to strengthen health sector collaboration under an existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two countries in October 2022.
The delegation's itinerary for their first day began with a key meeting at the Ministry of Health, followed by inspection visits to two of Kenya's key health institutions: the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) and the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC).
Giving his remarks, KMTC CEO Dr. Kelly Oluoch expressed his commitment to supporting Angola's health system through various training opportunities and exchange programmes. The CEO reported, “We are willing to work with you, after looking at your requests, to come up with the best approach to support you."
Discussions focused heavily on developing a collaborative and adaptable training approach. The CEO highlighted the intent to utilize simulation to deliver courses remotely. However, it was acknowledged that not all support can be virtual. Some initiatives will necessitate technical teams to travel from Kenya to Angola, while others will require Angolan learners to be available at practical sites in Kenya.
The KMTC leadership confirmed that a Technical Working Group (TWG) will soon be constituted to determine a way forward for all programmes, especially those requiring practical training that might necessitate travel by either students or trainers.
The visit, which runs until December 8, 2025, is a significant and practical step towards fulfilling the bilateral MoU, demonstrating the strong willingness of Kenya to enhance capacity building and strengthen health systems within Angola.
