President visits KMTC Malava Campus on his Kakamega County development tour

The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC Malava), on October 30, 2025, welcomed national leadership as part of the ongoing Kakamega County Presidential Development Tour, marking a key highlight in the region’s drive toward strengthened healthcare and education systems. The visit coincided with the official opening of Butere County Hospital and the commissioning of several major infrastructure projects across Kakamega County.

The Presidential delegation was received by a team led by KMTC Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Kelly Oluoch, accompanied by Board of Directors representative Engineer Joseph Atonga, the College Registrar, Mr. Ronald Wasike, as well as Principals, staff, and students from Kakamega, Navakholo, Bungoma, Webuye, and Chwele Campuses.

In his speech, His Excellency the President praised KMTC for its exceptional role in promoting Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by training highly skilled, practical professionals who constitute over 85% of Kenya’s healthcare workforce. He acknowledged the College's lasting influence on health service delivery both locally and internationally.

Malava Campus, one of the newest in the KMTC network, is strategically positioned to strengthen healthcare delivery in Kakamega County by producing graduates ready to serve in facilities such as Butere Hospital and other regional health institutions.

Looking ahead, KMTC is mapping out critical health training courses to address the unique and emerging health challenges in Kakamega County. These programs will focus on critical care nursing, emergency response, community health, and disease surveillance, directly supporting county and national health priorities.

Additionally, the President pledged government support to improve student accommodation across tertiary institutions, with KMTC identified as a key beneficiary, an initiative expected to enhance student welfare and academic excellence.

Through continued investment in quality training, innovation, and collaboration, KMTC remains at the forefront of transforming healthcare education and driving Kenya closer to achieving universal health access for all.
