KMTC Delegation Pays Courtesy Call to Kisumu Governor Ahead of National Sports Competition Closing

A delegation from the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), led by Board Chairperson Mr. Joseah Cheruiyot, paid a courtesy call on Kisumu County Governor Prof. Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o today. The visit coincided with the 14th Edition of the KMTC National Sports Competition, currently being held in Kisumu.

During the meeting, Prof. Nyong’o emphasized the critical role KMTC plays in enhancing community healthcare, noting the College’s extensive presence in 45 of Kenya’s 47 counties. “One of our biggest challenges is the late diagnosis of health conditions, which complicates timely interventions and hampers efforts to improve quality of life,” he said. He also highlighted that KMTC-trained medical professionals are vital in providing healthcare services at the foundational levels of the healthcare system.

Mr. Joseah Cheruiyot expressed gratitude to the Governor for his support in enabling KMTC to fulfill its mandate. He pledged continued collaboration with the County to enhance the training of middle-level healthcare professionals.

KMTC CEO Dr. Kelly Oluoch also thanked the Governor, acknowledging the substantial support from the County Government of Kisumu. He highlighted the County’s assistance in staff secondment and providing a conducive environment for students to undertake clinical practice in County health facilities.

The Board Chairperson extended an invitation to Governor Nyong’o to officially close the 14th edition of the KMTC National Sports Competition, scheduled for Friday, August 2, 2024 at Moi Stadium.

Also present at the meeting were KMTC Board Director Eng. Joseph Atonga, Kisumu County Executive Committee Member for Medical Services, Public Health, and Sanitation Dr. Gregory Ganda, KMTC’s Deputy Director in charge of Finance, Planning, and Administration Ms. Lucy Chebungei, staff from the College and County.
