KMTC Strengthens Global Health Partnerships to Enhance Healthcare Training

In a significant move to reinforce its commitment to providing globally competitive healthcare training, KMTC has received a courtesy call from Dr. Nick Bass, Director of the Global Health Force Programme at East London Foundation Trust (ELFT), UK. Dr. Bass, accompanied by Ms. Florence Maina, Principal of KMTC Mathari campus, Mr. Sam Munga, In-Country Consultant Kenya for the Tropical Health Education Trust (THET), and Ms. Christina Nuli, Kenya Consultant for THET. They were received by KMTC CEO Dr. Kelly Oluoch.

The visit highlights a crucial collaboration supported by the Small Grant SG 56 from THET. This initiative aims to link Kenya, the UK, Nigeria, and Ghana in addressing vital health concerns. In partnership with Kisii University and ELFT, KMTC Mathari campus is spearheading a program designed to scale integrated mental health training and provide ongoing support to non-specialist healthcare workers in primary care and oncology settings.

The grant will facilitate the training of 30 Trainers of Trainers (ToTs), 60 healthcare workers, and 60 community health promoters. These efforts are focused on strengthening health systems and improving overall population health outcomes, with an emphasis on both physical and mental health conditions.

This partnership and the subsequent training programs are expected to significantly enhance mental health services and support systems within the involved regions. It also aims to contribute to the development of a resilient health workforce in Kenya, Nigeria, and Ghana, supporting post-pandemic recovery and advancing towards universal health coverage.
