
PRESIDENT WILLIAM RUTO VISITS KMTC MANDERA, PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR HEALTHCARE TRAINING
Mandera County witnessed a historic milestone as H.E. President William Ruto arrived at KMTC Mandera Campus, marking a significant step in the expansion of healthcare training in the region. The KMTC Board of Directors, led by Chairperson Mr. Joseah Cheruiyot and CEO Dr. Kelly Oluoch, received the President, underscoring the institution’s growing impact in northeastern Kenya.
Addressing students, faculty and stakeholders, President Ruto emphasized the critical role of healthcare in Kenya’s development agenda, urging students to work diligently and uphold KMTC’s global vision of producing highly skilled healthcare professionals. “KMTC is not just preparing you for local service; it is equipping you for the global healthcare market,” he stated, reaffirming the institution’s reputation for excellence in medical training.
To enhance student welfare, learning conditions and accommodation facilities, President Ruto announced the formation of a task force led by Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards Mary Muthoni, in collaboration with KMTC Management and the Principal Secretary for National Housing. This team will spearhead the construction of additional hostels, to address the growing demand for student accommodation and ensuring a conducive learning environment.
His visit was marked by strong government support, with Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki, Mandera County Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif, Marsabit County Governor Mohamud M. Ali, and Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Aden Barre Duale, Health PS Mary Muriuki, among other dignitaries and local leaders, in attendance.
The visit which took place on February 4, 2025 culminated in a hands-on skills demonstration, reinforcing KMTC Mandera’s dedication to practical, competency-based training. Mr. Idris Adan Kerow, Deputy Principal, Finance and Administration, conducted a session on intramuscular drug administration, emphasizing the importance of precision in medical procedures. Additionally, the Head of Clinical Medicine at the Campus Mr. Abdul Fatah A. Adan led students in a respiratory examination demonstration, showcasing their proficiency in essential diagnostic skills. Presentation chapter was closed by the Skills Lab Coordinator, Mr. Mahdi Mohamed Ibrahim, presenting a catheterization procedure while highlighting critical patient care techniques.
Later the President marked his KMTC Mandera Campus visit with a tree growing exercise that saw a total of 200 tree seedlings planted.
