CEO addresses staff, calls for commitment in service delivery

KMTC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Prof. Michael Kiptoo addressed staff in a meeting held in Nairobi on 15th January, 2020, to take stock of achievements in the last year and chat a way forward in service delivery for the new year.

The CEO noted that in the last year, KMTC recorded several notable achievements. Among them were growth in the asset base of the College to about Kshs 8 billion through support from various County Governments, Members of Parliament and other partners. Others were better terms of employment for staff following re-categorization of the College, promotions, professional development through training, strengthening of transport systems in the Campuses, purchase of learning materials for students and equipping of skills labs among others.

Prof. Kiptoo reminded staff that the College plays a very important role in the Universal Health Coverage agenda. “Let us pull together and work as a team to support the President’s Big 4 Agenda and specifically Universal Health Coverage, for the benefit of all Kenyans,” the CEO urged.

That far, he said the College had expanded training programmes to meet market demands and in support of UHC, employed more staff as well as absorbed those seconded from the Ministry of Health and County Governments, to support the growing student population across the 71 KMTC campuses. 

He reiterated the commitment of Board and Management to staff welfare and encouraged them to reciprocate by performing their duties to the best of their abilities. He said plans are in place to continually recognise and reward exemplary performance by staff and campuses, in support of the College’s mandate.

He reported that in the current year, the staff mortgage scheme would be implemented to make it easy for them to own homes. “Kshs 150 Million has already been set aside for this purpose,” he said.

He added that the Board was taking concrete measures to enhance sports facilities for the benefit of students and staff.

The CEO disclosed that management was working closely with the Staff Union KUDHEIHA to look into the Collective Bargaining Agreement that had already been approved by the Salaries and Remuneration and would be implemented as soon as the funds were available.

Further, Prof. Kiptoo said plans were underway to build a KMTC towers that would serve both the Headquarters and Nairobi Campus, this, he said, would provide additional capacity for service delivery. In addition, renovation of hostels across all Campuses was ongoing in a bid to ensure students’ comfort.

The CEO also noted that the College had done well in admissions as a result of the robust admission system in place being cascaded down to all Campuses, ensuring that even those in the grassroots could apply to the College. This, he said had led to increase in the number of graduands being released to the job market.

Going forward, Prof. Kiptoo said, the College would take full advantage of technological advancement to ensure 100 percent implementation of E-learning in addition to roll out of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software to all KMTC Campuses.

He encouraged staff to familiarize themselves with the College’s instruments of governance, air their grievances using the available communication channels, be good ambassadors of the College and work as a team to deliver quality services expected by Kenyans.
