EXCITEMENT BUILDS AS KMTC KARURI CAMPUS TAKES SHAPE
A wave of excitement is sweeping through Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Karuri Campus as its long-awaited new facility nears completion.
On February 14, 2025, CEO Dr. Kelly Oluoch visited the construction site to inspect progress, and this writer accompanied him.
It was a race against time to complete the work, with every corner of the site buzzing with activity.
Workers were seen tying metal rods, preparing to erect wall columns, while others smoothed out freshly completed concrete floors, getting them ready for plastering.
Meanwhile, heavy lorries rumbled in, offloading essential materials including cement, sand, and steel rods, ensuring the project stayed on track.
“We have embarked on investing in infrastructure across all our Campuses to create better learning spaces and enhance our training standards,” said Dr. Oluoch.
The new three-story building will feature 16 classrooms, skills laboratories, computer labs, a library, and multiple administrative offices.
Construction Supervisor Mr. Moses Kamau assured that the project remains on schedule. “We are fully committed to delivering the project within the set timelines,” he affirmed.
Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for when Dr. Oluoch announced that students would relocate to the new facility in June 2025.
The news sent waves of excitement through the students. Cheers, claps, and jubilant smiles filled the air as they celebrated this long-awaited milestone.
“We have been dreaming of this day! Finally, we will have a modern Campus just like others. I can’t wait to take selfies in the new facility!” exclaimed an excited student.
For years, KMTC Karuri Campus has been hosted at Karuri Sub County Hospital in Kiambu County, where limited space hindered its expansion.
Dr. Oluoch explained that this challenge prompted the College to seek adjacent land, paving the way for the new construction.
“With this upcoming facility, we can now expand our programs and accommodate more students,” said Dr. Salim Omambia, the Campus Principal.
Staff members were also excited and looking forward to the new opportunities that the facility will bring.
Meanwhile, Karuri Sub County Hospital is also undergoing an expansion, with an additional 60-bed capacity under construction.
This development will strengthen clinical training opportunities for KMTC students, enhancing hands-on learning.
The Campus is banking on these infrastructural improvements to secure regulatory approvals for new programs, including Clinical Medicine and Nursing, positioning it as a top-tier medical training institution.
