Free eye surgery camp giving Mogotio residents the chance to see again

Hundreds of residents in Mogotio, Baringo County, who were at risk of losing their vision have regained their sight through free eye surgeries organized by the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) and its partners.

The College in partnership with the Kenya Society for the Blind, Ravine Glory Hospital, Centers for Health and Education Programs (CHEPS), and Mogotio Sub-County Hospital organized a free eye surgery camp at Mogotio Sub-County Hospital between April 22 and 26, 2024.

The six-day event saw a total of 1,500 patients benefit from a wide range of services including cataract surgeries, eye screening, treatment for various eye conditions, assessment of visually impaired individuals, issuance of white canes, refraction services, prescription and dispensing of reading glasses, and health talks.

College students in Opthalmology and cataract surgery, Optometry, and Nursing are actively involved in screening patients, the provision of nursing care, triaging, and blood sugar checking, among other roles.

The College is actively involved in giving back to society through its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives around health and medical services, social upliftment, education, and disaster response.
