KMTC ADVANCES EFFORTS TO STRENGTHEN AND INSTITUTIONALIZE MENTORSHIP
The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) has launched a transformative initiative to
enhance mentorship across the institution. As part of this effort, a weeklong workshop was
held at Manza Campus from March 17 to 22, 2025, aimed at strengthening and
institutionalizing mentorship. The workshop equipped participants with essential skills to
support and champion mentorship programs across KMTC campuses, promoting a culture of
guidance and professional growth
A diverse group of participants, comprising both teaching and non-teaching staff alongside
KMTC mentors and mentees, is actively engaged in the initiative. Leading the training is
mentorship expert Professor Omondi Oketch from the Technical University of Kenya, who
brings extensive experience in professional development and skills enhancement.
The workshop is designed to enhance facilitative mentorship, fostering mentee autonomy,
self-directed learning, and holistic growth. It emphasizes personal development, helping
mentees cultivate self-awareness, confidence, and leadership skills, while mentors serve as
guides who provide support and encouragement rather than imposing solutions. Additionally,
the training strengthens technical expertise by equipping participants with specialized
knowledge and practical application skills. The workshop also promotes best practices in
mentorship, ensuring structured and effective mentor-mentee relationships that drive long-
term success within KMTC.
By the end of the workshop, KMTC will finalize and validate its Mentorship Guide,
providing a structured framework to strengthen mentorship programs across all campuses.
This initiative aligns with KMTC’s Strategic Plan 2023-2028, Key Result Area (KRA) 4:
Institutional Sustainability.
Through the Human Resource Office, the College leadership reaffirmed its commitment to
mentorship as a cornerstone of institutional growth and academic excellence.
As the College continues to expand and innovate in healthcare training, mentorship remains a
vital force in driving professional excellence and institutional success.
