KMTC AND UNHCR ANNOUNCE 50 SCHOLARSHIPS FOR TURKANA RESIDENTS AND REFUGEES

KMTC in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), has announced 50 scholarship opportunities for the March 2025 intake.

These scholarships are aimed at supporting the local community in Turkana County and the refugee populations in Kakuma and Kolobeyei Camps, specifically for those interested in pursuing a Certificate course in Community Health Nursing.

KMTC CEO Dr. Kelly Oluoch stated that the full scholarships will be allocated at a 70% (local) and 30% (refugee) ratio, based on merit.

He expressed his gratitude to UNHCR for their ongoing support, noting that the scholarships will play a crucial role in building healthcare capacity in marginalized communities.

The College had a similar scholarship program last year, which attracted 193 applicants.

In addition to the scholarships, UNHCR is funding significant infrastructure developments at the KMTC Lodwar Campus, including a two-story library, a two-story laboratory block, a three-story tuition block, a gate, and a perimeter wall.

Dr. Oluoch highlighted that the partnership is also looking to expand to fund further infrastructure projects.

On January 20, 2025, a high-level delegation from UNHCR, the Novo Nordisk Foundation, the Royal Danish Embassy, and the Grundfos Foundation visited the Lodwar Campus.

The team was briefed on the awarded project contracts, met with beneficiaries, and discussed plans for upgrading sponsored students from certificate to diploma programs.

This initiative coincides with KMTC’s preparations to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2027.

The College continues to seek partnerships to support deserving students and strengthen healthcare training across Kenya and beyond.
