KMTC CEO Dr. Kelly Oluoch Addresses International Conference on Sickle Cell and Hemophilia Disease
The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), participated in a significant discourse centered on hemophilia, sickle cell, and related blood disorders at the International Conference on Sickle Cell (SCD) and Hemophilia Disease in Kisumu city on Wednesday, June 12, 2024.
The scientific SCDHC 2024, a collaborative effort between KMTC, the Kenya Society of Hematology and Oncology (KESHO), International Cancer Institute, Ministry of Health, and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH), among others, provided a platform for Dr. Oluoch to expound on KMTC’s strategies in combating blood disorders.
He highlighted the recent launch of a curriculum and the establishment of a center of excellence on hemophilia as crucial steps in this endeavor.
Dr. Oluoch emphasized KMTC’s commitment to producing qualified health practitioners to address the challenges posed by hemophilia and allied blood disorders.
He noted the increasing demand for KMTC graduates from foreign countries, underscoring the quality of education provided by the College.
Challenging the forum attendees, Dr. Oluoch advocated for a unified approach in addressing hemophilia and related blood disorders, citing the procurement of essential medicines as a significant challenge.
He urged regional collaboration in procuring health commodities to mitigate the financial burden associated with treating these disorders.
Welcoming the convention, County Health Executive Dr. Gregory Ganda expressed optimism that the event would foster discussions leading to homegrown solutions for sustainable care of blood disorders.
The three-day forum is set to conclude on Friday.
