KMTC KUDHEIHA UNION MEMBERS ELECT NEW LEADERS IN 2025 NATIONAL ELECTIONS

In a spirited gathering at Nakuru Campus, union members from across the KMTC campuses came together for the highly anticipated KUDHEIHA National Elections 2025. Held on March 25, the event brought together over 250 union representatives in a democratic process to elect new leaders. The elections marked the culmination of an intense campaign season, where more than ten candidates vied for three key positions: National Chief Shop Steward, National Chairperson, and National Secretary.

The two-day process was characterized by passionate debates, manifesto presentations, and rigorous engagements, highlighting the members’ deep commitment to shaping the future of their union.

After a competitive election, three candidates emerged victorious. Mr. Ayub Shariff Mutanda, a librarian and environmentalist from KMTC Kapenguria, secured the position of National Chief Shop Steward. Bringing years of experience and a vision for improved representation, Mr. Mutanda is expected to advocate for better working conditions and policies that benefit union members. The National Chairperson’s position went to Mr. David Ochieng Okatch, a seasoned member of the union. His extensive knowledge and dedication to workers’ rights position him as a leader poised to enhance the union’s impact. Meanwhile, Mr. Wycliffe Ongeri from Lodwar Campus, an ICT officer, rose to take up the role of National Secretary, committing to leading the union with fairness, collaboration, and progress.

Speaking on behalf of the KMTC CEO, Deputy Director of Finance, Planning, and Administration Ms. Lucy Chebungei underscored the importance of ethical leadership, urging the newly elected officials to remain committed to their duties. She reaffirmed the institution’s ongoing efforts to improve staff welfare, emphasizing initiatives such as well-being programs, fair compensation, and constructive engagement with union members. “KMTC management remains dedicated to working closely with campus principals to enhance staff conditions and address concerns,” she stated.

Accompanying her was Human Resource Manager, Mrs. Lilian Kemboi, who echoed similar sentiments and encouraged the new leaders to stay informed about College policies and guidelines. “Being well-informed enables you to lead effectively and make decisions based on facts,” she advised. She highlighted the importance of dialogue and alternative dispute resolution in maintaining a harmonious work environment, stressing that negotiations should always be prioritized over confrontation.

The KUDHEIHA elections mark the beginning of a new chapter for the union, which is registered under the Labour Institution Act 2007 and represents employees across domestic, hospitality, healthcare, and educational institutions. As the newly elected leaders assume their roles, union members look forward to a future of inclusivity, constructive engagement, and strengthened advocacy.
