KMTC Leadership Embarks on Benchmarking Visit to AMPATH for Donor-Funded Program Implementation Insights
In a strategic move to enhance the implementation of donor-funded programs, the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) leadership and its USAID Msingi Imara (UMI) Program team on Thursday, May 30, 2024, conducted a benchmarking visit to the Academic Model Providing Access to Healthcare (AMPATH) Program.
The visit, aimed at gleaning valuable lessons from AMPATH’s extensive experience managing diverse donor-funded projects, saw the KMTC delegation, led by Deputy Director Finance, Planning and Administration Ms. Lucy Chebungei and UMI Chief of Party Mr. Mathew Thuku, engage with AMPATH’s Chief of Party, Prof. Sylvester Kimayo, and his grant and compliance team.
Prof. Kimayo, a seasoned expert in grant management, shared key insights and best practices accumulated over 22 years of managing complex donor-funded projects. The KMTC team gained valuable knowledge on various aspects of grant management, including compliance, financial reporting, and program monitoring and evaluation.
The visit also allowed both institutions to explore potential areas of collaboration in the implementation of health-related programs.
The KMTC leadership expressed gratitude for the warm reception and the wealth of knowledge shared by the AMPATH team. They reiterated their commitment to leveraging the lessons learned to strengthen the USAID Msingi Imara Program implementation and other donor-funded initiatives at KMTC.
The USAID Misingi Imara Program, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), is a collaborative effort led by KMTC in partnership with Jhpiego and Living Goods.
Over three (3) years, the program aims to strengthen human resources for health, quality management, and community health systems at national and county levels.
