KMTC TRAINS CHAMPIONS TO SUPPORT STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES
The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) is making a significant step toward inclusive education by training over 150 officers to enhance learning for students with disabilities.
This effort has earned recognition from the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD).
Speaking during the training, KMTC Human Resource Manager, Mrs. Lilian Kemboi, who represented CEO Dr. Kelly Oluoch, reaffirmed the College’s commitment to fair and inclusive learning.
“At KMTC, we believe that no one should be left behind. This training will empower our students and staff to work together in creating a welcoming and supportive learning environment for all,” she said.
Mrs. Kemboi emphasized that accessible education benefits everyone – students, staff, and the communities they serve.
“When we make learning accessible, everyone wins. Our efforts align with Kenya’s Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring equal opportunities for all,” she added.
The training, scheduled from February 17 to 22, 2025, took place at two KMTC campuses. The first group, drawn from KMTC campuses across the country, trained at KMTC Nakuru Campus from Monday 17th to Wednesday 19th.
Nakuru Campus Principal, Mr. Grosvenor Kiplangat Ng’eno, highlighted the campus’s commitment to enhancing facilities for students with disabilities. The second group was trained at KMTC Machakos Campus from Thursday 20th to Saturday 22nd, led by Principal Mrs. Felistus Muinde.
By the end of the week, nearly 150 disability champions were equipped with the knowledge and skills to support students across KMTC’s campuses.
Beyond meeting national and global inclusion standards, KMTC is actively working to make learning materials, classrooms, and technology accessible to all. These efforts will ensure that future healthcare professionals are better prepared to provide compassionate, patient-centered care.
Through this initiative, KMTC continues to transform healthcare training in Kenya, ensuring that every student receives the support they need to excel.
