12,621 to graduate as KMTC holds the 87th Graduation Ceremony
The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) will hold its 87th graduation ceremony today December, 5th 2019. The Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Health Mrs. Sicily Kariuki will preside over the graduation ceremony in which 12,621 students are expected to graduate. The number of students graduating has been on a steady increase. In 2016, the figure stood at, 8,042 in 2017, 8,967 while in 2018 was 10,869.
The College has collaborated with County Governments and other partners to establish a number of Campuses, mount courses and train for the Counties’ identified needs. The College has started 43 new Campuses increasing the number from 28 in 2013 to 71 in 2019. This increase has led to growth in student population from 19,000 in 2013 to over 41,000 in 2019.
The increase in the number of graduands this year will bridge the human resource gaps for health and bring hope to the Counties which have continued to experience shortage of health workers. Adequate, skilled and fairly distributed Human Resource for Health is a pre-requisite for the attainment of Universal Health Coverage, Vision 2030 and Sustainable Development Goals, of which KMTC is committed to support the government achieve.
Established in 1927, KMTC remains the lead-trainer in the medical field producing over 85% of middle level health professionals for the local health sector. In any health facility you go to in Kenya and even internationally, you will not miss to find a KMTC graduate or trainee. KMTC is the largest and biggest government owned mid-level health training institution in East Africa and beyond.
