Board addresses College’s top Management, announces plans for enhanced service delivery.

The KMTC Board on 6th February, 2020, met with Senior Managers and Principals from various Campuses on the sidelines of the ongoing labour relations training in Mombasa.

This marks the end of the Labour Relations training, all other staff having been previously trained.  The training aimed at sensitizing staff on harmonious labour relations.

While addressing the participants, Board Chairman Prof. Philip Kaloki, EBS, said the Board had embedded and strengthened the culture of good governance to ensure compliance with existing laws and regulations. He said the Board had instituted measures to ensure optimum utilization of resources as the College delivers on its mandate of training competent health professionals.

In line with the Boards transformative agenda, Prof. Kaloki announced that the College was in the process of recruiting 264 new lecturers to boost the numbers already available. This, he noted, would ensure that the student- lecturer ratio is met as the College seeks to maintain its position as a leader in producing competent health professionals. Further, he said, more vehicles would be acquired for use by students and faculty in accessing clinical practice areas, in the continued efforts to strengthen the transport system in the College.

The Chairman reported that 50 policies, touching on different areas of operations, had been developed to streamline and strengthen internal processes in the College. He urged staff to familiarize themselves with the Policies, which are available on the KMTC website  www.kmtc.ac.ke . He further urged the participants to take time and go through the KMTC Strategic Plan 2018-2023 as it spells out the vision of the Board for the College.

Prof. Kaloki enumerated the various achievements of the Board in the past year, key among them, implementation of better terms of service for staff following re-categorization of the College. He affirmed that the Board recognizes the importance of employee welfare and is committed to ensuring a conducive working environment for all staff. “The Board is committed to enhancing staff welfare and is working day and night to ensure we have the necessary resources to benefit you as you serve the public” he added.

He called upon staff to have harmonious working relationships, embrace a culture of change, positive attitude, transparency and accountability to “transform KMTC to the best mid-level College in East Africa and beyond.”

CEO Prof. Michael Kiptoo highlighted plans put in place by Management to enhance staff and student’s welfare as well as promote efficiency in service delivery.  He said “Communication is key in addressing all staff issues to promote harmony in the work place.” He encouraged staff to look out for opportunities for individual growth as this would enhance their capacity in service delivery.

Board Director Mr. Fredrick Wamwaki challenged the managers to create a good working environment and cohesive teams which will ensure enhanced service delivery and continued growth of the College.

“Let us do what is required of us to advance KMTC’s mandate,” Board Director Mr. Mithamo Muchiri said.
