College hosts Tharaka Nithi Governor, discusses wide-range of partnerships

KMTC Board Chair – Amb. Zach Muburi Muita has today (October 21, 2022) hosted Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki to discuss collaboration between the two institutions.

KMTC and the County Government have had a long-standing partnership.

In 2015, the College Board of Directors established KMTC Chuka with the support of Hon. Njuki, who was then the MP for Chuka/Igambang’ombe Constituency.

Upon establishment, KMTC Chuka was hosted within Chuka University premises.

In 2018, the County Government allocated a five-acre piece of land for the expansion of the Campus, so that KMTC Chuka could operate from its own premises.

The same year, H.E Dr. William Samoei Ruto laid a foundation stone for the construction of a tuition block at the Campus facility.

On the other hand, the construction of an Administration block supported by the Chuka/Igambang’ombe National Government Constituency Development Fund under the leadership of Hon. Patrick Munene is underway.

The Governor appreciated the contribution the College has made to the county’s health sector, saying, “hosting KMTC Chuka has remarkably improved the county’s health sector,” he added.

“We will continue to support its expansion and completion of the ongoing infrastructural projects, which will in turn result in the mounting of more need-based courses.”

Amb. Muita thanked the Governor for his support towards the growth of the College, noting “KMTC is committed to producing competent health professionals to bridge the Human resources for health gaps in the country.”

On the other hand, KMTC Chief Executive Officer Dr. Kelly Oluoch said, “the College has doubled its efforts in bridging student-staff ratios, providing teaching and learning equipment to support mounting of specialized courses, to address healthcare challenges in the country.

The Governor was accompanied by his County Executive Committee Member in charge of Health Dr. Gichunya Riara, the Chief Officer in charge of Finance and Economic Planning Mr. Aggrey Riungu, and the Chief Officer in charge of Lands Ms. Faith Kalunda.

Also in attendance were KMTC’s Deputy Director Academics Dr. Nyawira Mwangi, Registrar Dr. Lucy Waweru, Communications Manager Ms. Marcellah Onsomu, and Principal Chuka Mr. Samuel Ndukanio.

The College has 72 campuses strategically located in 44 out of the 47 counties in the country and contributes over 85% of the local health workforce. The College has seven Faculties, with 18 departments offering 93 courses, ranging from Certificate, Diploma, and Higher Diplomas as well as short courses.

KMTC Chuka offers Diplomas in Nursing, Clinical Medicine, and Surgery as well as Orthopedic Trauma Medicine.
