KMTC receives a billion in partnership support to train Enrolled Community Nurses

KMTC Ag. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Kelly Oluoch has lauded a partnership with Beyond Zero, World Bank and Roche, that has seen the College receive 1.13 billion in partnership support to train Enrolled Community Nurses (ECNs).

Speaking as a panelist during the second Beyond Zero Summit held at State House, Nairobi on December 3, 2021, Dr. Kelly reported that through this partnership, the College has trained 1200 ECNs with 600 of them currently employed by various County Governments in the Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL).

“We have 20 ASAL Counties in Kenya and one of the challenges that has been persistent is access to care on maternal, newborn and child health,” Dr. Kelly observed adding, “the partnership between KMTC and Beyond Zero has helped the country bridge this gap.”

He further reported that in addition to the 1200 already trained, there are currently 124 students undertaking the ECN course at KMTC, thanks to the partnership between the College, Beyond Zero and Roche.

The meeting held to take stock of the progress made towards achievement of the Universal Health Coverage was presided over by H.E. the First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, who is also the patron of the Beyond Zero Foundation.
