Health PS Visits KMTC, Pledges Support
Ministry of Health, State Department for Health Standards and Professional Management Principal Secretary Dr. Josephine Mburu on March 1, 2023 called on the KMTC CEO Dr. Kelly Oluoch during a courtesy call to the College.
The PS, who is an alumna and former staff of the College, expressed her joy at being back at the institution that nurtured her. “KMTC is a part of me and has played a huge part in my growth as a professional,” the Dr. Mburu said.
On this premise and the commitment by Government to quality and equitable health services to all Kenyans, the PS emphasized that standardization and quality assurance in health training are essential in ensuring healthcare professionals receive high-quality education and training, are properly equipped to provide safe and effective care to patients, and remain up-to-date with the latest advancements in healthcare. In line with this, the PS added that “I look forward to working with the College to change the country’s health landscape for the better.”
Towards expanding training opportunities for qualified applicants and opening up access to these opportunities, Dr. Mburu challenged the College Board and Management to take advantage of new innovations and inventions in health training. She further encouraged the College to leverage on technology to circumvent challenges arising from the availability of limited resources.
On his part, Dr. Oluoch thanked the PS for her visit to the College and commitment to improving health training standards in the country.
The CEO briefed the PS on the milestones the College has achieved toward strengthening the health systems in the country. “In the 2022 graduation ceremony held in December, the College released 15,915 graduates into the health sector towards bridging the human resource for health gaps that continue to persist,” the CEO said. Further, Dr. Oluoch added, as proof of the confidence and trust the public has in the institution, the College has been ranked the best middle-level training institution in the country, three years in a row, by Webometrics.
The PS was accompanied by Director Administration, State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards Mr. Adan Harakhe, and Director, Health Sector coordination and Intergovernmental Relations Dr. Joseph Lenai.
