Kapenguria gets ultra-modern facility
West Pokot Governor Prof. John Lonyangapuo has reiterated his commitment to supporting Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Kapenguria.
The county signed an agreement with KMTC Kapenguria Campus in May 2019 to inject millions of shillings towards the construction of a world-class training facility as well as recruit more lecturers for the institution.
Speaking while commissioning a tuition block Monday (June 28, 2021), Governor Lonyangapuo hailed the partnership, noting that it has brought development to the area.
He noted that devolution has provided the county with much-needed resources to initiate numerous projects in the county.
“Kapenguria Campus remains one of our flagship projects. We will continue to allocate additional resources to hire more staff and provide the requisite utilities,” he said, in a speech read on his behalf by County Secretary Mr. John Karamunya.
In an effort to provide equitable, affordable, and quality health care, the county in recent past embarked on an expansion of its healthcare facilities in rural areas.
The County Government is banking on KMTC to provide staff for these upcoming health facilities.
Prof. Kiptoo noted that the College will redouble its efforts to equip the Campus, noting that the Management will allocate more resources towards equipping the library and hiring more staff.
KMTC CEO Prof. Michael Kiptoo welcomed the partnership, saying it has contributed to the rapid expansion of the Campus.
“The Campus was officially opened in 2015 by H.E. President Uhuru Kenyatta. And slightly over five years, we now have 829 students. This is a great achievement,” he said.
